Inline Water Measurement for CPO Off-Loading & Trade

Continuous water content monitoring at the truck off-loading bay, storage terminal intake, and refinery gate. Independent measurement where payment disputes are settled.

The Challenge

Crude palm oil is traded on moisture content. At the off-loading bay, every tanker load is a commercial transaction — and water content directly determines the price paid. Disputes between mill, transporter, and refinery are common when lab results disagree.

Payment Disputes

CPO is bought and sold by weight, adjusted for moisture. A 0.1% difference on a 30-tonne load changes the payment significantly. Seller and buyer labs often disagree.

Slow Lab Turnaround

Karl Fischer titration takes 30+ minutes. Trucks queue while waiting for results. Off-loading proceeds before lab results arrive, making rejection impractical.

Quality Degradation

Water above 0.15% accelerates free fatty acid (FFA) rise during storage and transport. Accepting wet CPO into storage tanks degrades the entire inventory.

Grab Sample Limitations

A single sample from a tanker hatch may not represent the load. Water settles, temperature varies, and sampling technique introduces error.

How Zelentech Solves It

The ZT-100 Water In CPO Monitor is installed inline on the off-loading pipe between the tanker and the storage tank. As the truck discharges, the instrument measures the water content of the entire load continuously — not just a grab sample from the top of the hatch.

The result is a volume-weighted average moisture content for the full delivery, available in real time on the 4–20mA output and logged for records. This gives both buyer and seller an independent, continuous measurement that represents the actual load, not a single-point lab sample.

Factory calibrated specifically for the dielectric properties of crude palm oil, the ZT-100 CPO variant delivers accurate readings without the guesswork of adapting a petroleum-grade instrument to a different fluid.

Full-Load Measurement

Measures the entire tanker as it off-loads, not a grab sample. Volume-weighted average eliminates sampling bias.

Real-Time Rejection

If water content exceeds the agreed limit, the off-loading can be stopped immediately — before wet CPO contaminates the storage tank.

Independent Reference

Inline measurement provides an auditable record that both parties can trust, reducing disputes over lab sample discrepancies.
