ZT-100-C Tool - Windows Setup Guide
===================================

The tool ships as SOURCE and runs on Windows, Linux and macOS alike. There
is no installer to run: you install Python once, then install the tool with
one command. About five minutes, most of it Python downloading.

What you need
-------------
- Windows 10 or later
- Python 3.12 or later (step 1 below)
- A USB-to-RS485 adapter (FTDI or CH340)
- A ZT-100-C connected on the adapter's A/B terminals

1. Install Python
-----------------
Get it from python.org/downloads and run the installer.

   On the FIRST installer screen, tick "Add python.exe to PATH" before
   clicking Install. It is off by default and easy to miss, and without it
   none of the commands below will be found. Already installed without it?
   Re-run the installer, choose Modify, and tick it there.

2. Unpack the download
----------------------
Right-click zt100c-app.zip and choose "Extract All". Pick a folder you can
find again - Documents is fine. Windows cannot run it from inside the zip.

3. Open a terminal in that folder
---------------------------------
Open the unpacked folder, hold Shift, right-click the empty space, and
choose "Open PowerShell window here" or "Open in Terminal". You want the
folder containing pyproject.toml.

4. Install the tool
-------------------
   pip install -e .

This pulls in the interface libraries (PySide6, pyqtgraph, pyserial,
pymodbus) and creates the launcher. A few hundred megabytes, a couple of
minutes.

5. Run it
---------
   zt100c-app

From then on you can start it the same way, or search for "ZT-100-C" in the
Start menu.

Connecting to a card
--------------------
1. Plug the USB-to-RS485 adapter into the PC.
2. Wire A/B through to the ZT-100-C.
3. Open the Connect page and pick the COM port.
4. Click Connect. The product name and firmware version appear once the
   card answers.

Logging
-------
Measurement logs are written under:

   %USERPROFILE%\ztlogs\zt-100-c

The active log path is shown in the app while logging runs.

Troubleshooting
---------------
"python is not recognized"
   The "Add python.exe to PATH" box was not ticked during installation.
   Re-run the Python installer, choose Modify, and tick it.

The card does not appear in the port list
   It shows up as a COM port, and a USB-to-RS485 adapter usually needs its
   own driver installed first - FTDI and CH340 are the common chips. Check
   Device Manager under Ports (COM & LPT).

The port is listed but greyed out
   Another application already has it open.
